EXPLORE THE BIBLE
EXPLORE THE BIBLE
“… thy word is truth.”
– Jesus
What is a Bible study like?
Our Bible groups are friendly and relaxed gatherings that normally meet in someone’s home. We sit comfortably in a loungeroom or around a kitchen table. Our meetings begin with a coffee or tea and open with a prayer. The leader of the study will then guide the group through the study topic for that week. A study typically involves reading various Bible scriptures associated with the week’s Bible topic. The scriptures are explained and discussed. People are encouraged to ask questions.
Some might describe our meetings as a chat about the Bible over coffee! Although our studies are relaxed, they are very earnest and sincere. We meet with the purpose of seeking out Gods Word. We deliberately and honestly seek to understand what God says about the subjects we are interested in.
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart;
and lean not unto thine own understanding.
For the LORD giveth wisdom:
out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
Why the Bible?
We hold the Bible to be the Word of God. It is God’s message to us. It reveals who God is and who we are. It declares God’s love and invitation to become one of His children. It shows us the way to be saved from our sin. It gives us practical instruction and wisdom. It shows us the truth! Quite simply the Bible is a true treasure and its truths change lives.
Man’s knowledge, perception, and opinion changes with time. What was right yesterday, is wrong today. What is wrong today, will be right tomorrow. Our attitudes and beliefs change with time and circumstances. You could say that mankind’s idea of truth is always changing! God’s truth on the other hand, does not change. It is utterly reliable and trustworthy. It is our trusted standard of right and wrong. It is our foundation of truth.
What subjects do we study?
Almost everything! We study subjects concerned with who God is, the teachings of Jesus, and church history. At other times we seek to learn how to grow closer to God through prayer and spiritual maturity. Often we search the scriptures to understand a specific life issue or topic that we deal with such as marriage, mental illness, struggling with addiction, etc. Our topics can be wide ranging because we will often chose to study those topics that are of most interest to the group.
Our meetings are intended not only to help us learn and understand what the Bible says about different topics, but to help us apply these truth to our lives. We don’t want to just know wisdom and truth, we want to live it!
Our purpose in exploring the scriptures is to:
blessed are they that hear the word of God,
and keep it.
But be ye doers of the word,
and not hearers only.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet,
and a light unto my path.
Do I have to answer questions or read aloud?
No! You can just sit back and listen if you like. But once you are comfortable to, you will find that you learn the most and have the most fun when you ask questions and are involved in the discussion.
How difficult is the study?
Our studies are matched to those in the group and are generally suitable for all levels of Christian experience – from non-Christians to experienced Christians seeking to grow.
How long is the meeting?
Our Bible gatherings typicaly go for around 1 hour.
Does it cost anything?
There is absolutely no cost involved with these studies. Most people bring their own Bible, but if your don’t have one, we will supply one for you.
